General Information New National Ad Featuring Former U.S. Surgeon General C. Everett Koop

Start Over - Get Health Care Right Campaign Begins Today

ALEXANDRIA, VA – Today, the 60 Plus Association announced a new advertising campaign featuring former U.S. Surgeon General C. Everett Koop. The ad which targets Congress asks people to call their Representatives and Senators and urge them to “Start Over - Get Healthcare Right.”

This latest 60 Plus Association national cable ad buy starts with a $400,000 expenditure and highlights C. Everett telling viewers he is 93 years old and “I’m here with 2 artificial joints, 2 pacemakers to keep my heart in rhythm, as well as a stent to keep my coronaries open.” He goes on to say seniors might not get the care they need at advanced ages under the new plans, and asserts that the discussions over a final plan should NOT be held in secret.

A full transcript of the ad can be found by clicking READ MORE below.

“C. Everett Koop has it right. Congress needs to start over and get healthcare right . Come out from behind closed doors and have a public debate about this all too important issue,” said Jim Martin, Chairman of 60 Plus.

Titled “Dr. Koop” the :60 second TV ad begins running today. (Click READ MORE to see the full transcript.)

“Seniors need to have ready access to their doctor, we don’t need to make that harder or increase the out-of-pocket costs for fixed income seniors. This reform bill would set us on the road to a system in which bureaucrats make medical decisions instead of doctors and patients. The healthcare norm would become a government run disaster with waiting lines for office visits and procedures, and seniors would have to beg civil service boards for innovative treatme nts or life saving medicine,” continued Martin.

Seniors and United Kingdom B-Roll

Seniors in this country can get the care I received, but in some places, like the United Kingdom, we would be considered too old and the cost to the state too high.
