Dr. Robert Steadward, a retired Edmonton-based sports medicine doctor, said Wednesday that operating the Paralympics at the same time as the Olympics would.....

Olympics Blind Olympian's outlook on life inspiring

Reprint from Toronto Star By Rosie DiManno

VANCOUVER

The blind spot is fuzzy, changing hue according to the quality of light and surrounding colours, like a mood ring.

Brian McKeever can see around the darkness, his vision exclusively peripheral. With only that 10 per cent view of the world, he is legally blind.

Yet he's also an Olympian, the first winter athlete to compete in both the Paralympics and as an able-bodied sportsman at any Games – no guide, no crutch and no handicapped otherness.

Olympics Blind Athletes Train At United States Olympic Training Center

Reprint from KKTV By Reporter: Marybeth Brush

As you cheer on your favorite athlete in Vancouver, some blind and visually impaired athletes got a chance to learn the ropes of their favorite sports in Southern Colorado.

Olympics Blind skier makes Olympics history

Brian McKeever has made the team – and history.

The 30-year-old cross country skier from Canmore, Alta., who is legally blind, was one of six men and five women named to the Canadian Olympic team Friday, making him the first athlete to compete in both the Winter Games and the Paralympics.

He’ll also be the first Canadian – winter or summer – to do so in the same year.
